Glen Ivy Golf Club Course Review

The Golf club at Glen Ivy is a gorgeous Ted Robinson Sr. design that winds through groves of citrus trees and along the hillsides and canyons of the Cleveland National Forest. Opened for play in 1999 and located just south of Orange County, the course and clubhouse are complementary components to the recreational amenities at the residential resort community developed by Shea Homes. The nearby reserve helps to create a serene and beautiful golf environment.

Four sets of tee boxes are fairly evenly interspersed, affording golfers of all skill levels to choose a set that matches their game. The tips stretch out to play just under 6700 yards with a 132 slope – challenging enough for most single digit players. Alternate sets measure in distance and slope 6332 yards/129 slope, 6000 yards/137 slope for women, and 5439 yards with a slope of 130 for ladies hitting from the forward tees. As you would expect from a course of this caliber, yardage markers are situated on the fairways and cart paths at 100, 150 and 200 yards, and sprinkler heads are also measured to the center of the green. Pin placement charts indicate the day’s hole locations.

Water comes into play on 6 holes, and over 70 soft sand bunkers are located near the spacious landing zones, or are situated greenside. The terrain is extremely rolling with ample landing zones on the manicured fairways. The mildly undulating, raised green complexes are well protected by sand traps, mounding and swales. In fact, most of the bunkers on this course (43 of the 71) are greenside. Be sure to throw your approach shots tight to the pin or be prepared to get up and down to save par.

This course boasts 2 extremely picturesque and memorable finishing holes on the front and the back nines. The par three 9th hole is a great finish to the formidable challenge of the front side. It begins from an elevated tee box and plays to a green protected by a pond to the right with a beautiful mountain backdrop. Make sure to get your cameras ready for this hole.

The 18th is equally gorgeous and is considered their “Signature Hole”. The 400 yard par 4 plays dramatically downhill from an elevated tee box that drops some 210 feet to a wide open fairway. Favor the right side to avoid the danger that lurks on the left. Make sure to hit your approach shots center green as the green complex is protected by a large water hazard to the left. Best not to get too cut on this hole, make your par and head to the 19th hole for a drink! Beautiful course, great facilities, wonderful service – highly recommended.
