Young Pro Beats World No. 1, Sets New Record

Cameron Smith won the Sentry Tournament of Champions after finishing the week at 34-under par.

Smith was in the lead for the tournament at the completion of each day’s play, and he won the tournament with an 8-under 65 on Sunday.

Smith also set the PGA TOUR scoring record for the lowest score to par in a 72-hole stroke play event (-34).

Smith has now won four times on the PGA TOUR.

After shooting 7-under on Sunday, Jon Rahm ended solo second, one stroke behind Smith at 33-under. Matt Jones finished solo third after shooting 12-under on Sunday, bringing his tournament total to 32-under.Patrick Cantlay finished in 4th place shooting 67 on Sunday and 26-under for the tournament. Collin Morikawa, Justin Thomas and Daniel Berger round out the top 5 at T5 finishing 25-under for the week.

Jones’ 61 on Sunday ties the course record that was set on Saturday by Rahm and Justin Thomas.

The TOUR stays in Hawaii for the Sony Open next week where Kevin Na will try and defend his 2021 championship.
